Strategize written contributions

“In your field, what is the most-needed breakthrough in science/technology that would advance your agricultural enterprise?”

“When considering all of agriculture, what is the greatest challenge that should be addressed through NIFA’s research, education, and extension?”

“What is your top priority in food and agricultural research, extension, or education that NIFA should address?”

Need to make it easy as possible to find input form and create a template for answers to questions. Think about defining consumer horticulture and or add in other agreed upon language for what the priorities are. Also need to continue to repeat ‘consumer horticulture’ and show linkages in top 10 themes.

ACTION ITEM:

By Friday October 26, Committee will answer the three questions so a template can be drawn up. Emphasis should be on continual use of ‘consumer horticulture’, and to use top 20 themes identified in 2017 NIFA Report in answering questions. Missy will re-send 2017 NIFA Report.

Ideas:

New plants that thrive and support pollinators with focus on urban environments and natives.

Better way to track plants through the supply chain – market research on how and where plants are being used. Who are we selling to? Where do plants end up?

Research and automation through the supply chain – ways to reduce labor inputs.

Research and extension in plant water use/deficit irrigation trialing
